Earth’s Greatest Enemy is a documentary five years in the making by The Empire Files journalist Abby Martin and her husband, Iraq War combat veteran Mike Prysner, seeks to break the silence around this immense reality. To my knowledge Earth’s Greatest Enemy is the first feature-length film to provide a comprehensive overview of the climate and environmental impacts of U.S. militarism. The six sections of the film include: carbon emissions, toxic dumping, war fallout, habitat destruction, ocean disruption, and fossil-fuel enforcement.
The existence of Pride month is intended to hold space to celebrate queer people, with respect to the Stonewall riots of 1969; however, queer people live full, queer lives outside of June. With the rise of homophobia and the rescinding of legislative protections of queer people--and in certain places, the outright attack on trans healthcare and queer expression from state governments--there is an imperative to push back against this cultural shift in the United States by exemplifying the non-normative nature of living queer life, and the joy that comes with it.We invite queer artists who live and work in the Detroit area to show work that celebrates their queer joy, expression, and experiences, no matter how those manifest. We hold space for the aspects of queer life that have been attacked by the transphobic and homophobic initiatives of the Trump administration, and have been deemed too non-normative by mainstream representations of queerness through art. Our bodies and our love not only challenges heteronormativity, but bring us fulfillment and makes us whole.
