Mission Statement

As a mission of Central United Methodist Church, we promote and inspire justice and peace through the visual and performing arts by:

•Serving as a forum for artists to present their works that comment on social conditions.

•Fostering visions of the world transformed to one where peace & justice prevail.

•Encouraging people to use their creativity to express their desire for such a world & to take action to  make those visions reality.

About Us

The Swords Into Plowshares Peace Center and Gallery is Southeast Michigan's and Detroit's unique location for peace and justice related art exhibits as well as a location for a number of peace-related events. The Gallery also has a gift shop featuring books, cards and artwork that can be purchased but we will be announcing big changes in the near future. We are a 501(c)3 and any donations made to SIP are tax deductible.

As a mission of Central United Methodist Church since 1985, our efforts have been a peace and justice driven creative response to the world of violence and war. We strive towards resolving human conflict in alternative fashions and continue to do so through visual arts, poetry, music, and drama. Any visit to SIP will guarantee you a warm, personal and sensitive experience as our gallery is run by local Detroit volunteers, some of whom have been with us for 30+ years!

We support artists of conscience and provide a place where their creations about peace, justice, and prejudice have an opportunity to be shared and shine with the public sphere. Any artist or person is welcome to participate and if you would like to be included in our mission, whether for artistic or volunteering reasons, please get in touch. We serve and support many groups promoting all forms of peace and justice- if you're interested in speaking with us or are looking to host an event, please reach out to us today!
